Licensable Components of IntuiFace

1. What is the difference between Composer and Player?

IntuiFace Composer enables you to design interactive experiences on any Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 PC. Your interactive experiences are run by IntuiFace Player on any Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 10 device plus on the iPad, off-the-shelf Android tablets, custom Android devices and the Samsung SMART Signage Platform.NOTE: Composer includes two embedded Players – at no extra charge - so you can test your experiences before deployment. One Player simulates Player for Windows. The other Player simulates Player for Tablets and Player for Kiosks.

Purchase Plan Options

2. What is a subscription license?

A subscription license enables the use of IntuiFace Composer and IntuiFace Player over a specific period of time. Think of it as a rental model for Composer and Player. Two time periods are available for purchase: monthly (a rolling calendar month) and yearly (a rolling calendar year). At the conclusion of the purchased time period, Composer and/or Player cease to operate unless an additional payment has been collected.
Licenses are device specific; each device needs its own license. For Windows PCs, annual subscription licenses are entitled to a limited number of device-to-device transfers: 3 per subscription year for the annual Pro Edition and month-to-month Enterprise Edition, 5 per subscription year for the annual Enterprise Edition. There is no limit to the number of device-to-device transfers for Player for Tablets and Player for Kiosks. For more information, see this article.

NOTE: Composer and Player are purchased separately and their subscription clock - the time during which licenses are operational - begins at the moment of purchase.

3. How does subscription renewal work?

Subscription customers are automatically rebilled – via credit card - at the end of each purchased time period.  Rebill notification will be sent 30 days and 5 days prior to the renewal date. Automated subscription renewal can be stopped at any time using the My Licenses section of our online Account Management website. Instructions for cancelling renewal can be found here. When auto-renewal is stopped, customers will not be charged for the next period and will continue to be able to use Composer and/or Player until the end of the current period. Early termination is not subject to any refund for the current period. Each subscription and subscription renewal - once payment has been collected - requires Internet-mediated activation (phone activation is not available) no more than five days after the beginning of a new period After that five day period, in the absence of Internet-mediated activation, subscriptions will cease to work. To reactivate these licenses, you must establish an Internet connection on each hosting PC. If you plan to use Subscription-based licenses in an environment without Internet access, make sure those licenses will not expire while offline. Alternatively, consider the use of Perpetual licenses as they never expire.

4. What is a perpetual license?

A perpetual license grants time unlimited use for Composer and Player for Windows, meaning these licenses can never be disabled. There is no time limit for ownership. In addition, there is no limit to the number of times perpetual licenses can be transferred between Windows PCs. And perpetual Composer licenses, in particular, can "float", meaning multiple people can share a small number of licenses through an automated check in/check out process. Contact us for additional details about purchasing perpetual licenses,

5. Can I upgrade from Pro to Enterprise?

Yes, you can upgrade from Pro to both the subscription and perpetual versions of the Enterprise Edition at a reduced cost. Contact us for details.

6. What if I have only short duration projects?

The month-to-month subscription license option enables a short-term, monthly commitment to IntuiFace Composer and Player. Only purchase what you need, cancel licenses after project completion, purchase more when demand resurfaces.

7. Am I able to purchase both Subscription and Perpetual Players?

Customers purchasing or in possession of perpetual Composer licenses can purchase both perpetual Players and subscription Players for any platform. Customers in possession of or only purchasing subscription licenses for Composer are limited to purchasing subscription Players.

8. What would qualify me for academic discounts?

Qualifying institutions are 1) accredited primary or secondary schools with full time instruction, 2) accredited public or private universities and colleges granting degrees requiring at least two years of study, and 3) teaching hospitals. Such institutions can purchase the annual Composer Enterprise license at an 80% discount. One limitation: account-to-account license transfers are prohibited.

9. Are there partnership or reseller options that deliver product discounts?

IntuiLab offers an affiliate program to interested companies. See this page for more information.

10. Is it possible to remove the splash screen from Player?

Yes. We offer a white label version of our Player that permits you to either eliminate its splash screen entirely or substitute it with your own splash screen image. (The splash screen is the image you see whenever a software program starts.) There are two White Label Player options: annual subscription and perpetual. The annual can only be purchased by those with at least one annual Composer Enterprise license; the perpetual can only be purchased by those with at least one perpetual Composer Enterprise license. For more information about the white label Player, see this article.

11. Is there a trial version of Composer Enterprise?

No. However, the only design feature unique to Composer Enterprise - custom interface assets - can be used with the Free and Pro Editions of Composer as well. The limitation: only Composer Enterprise can save or publish experiences containing customer interface assets.

12. What is the pricing policy?

License cost can vary based on the geographic location of the purchaser. If any IntuiFace licenses are purchased at prices other than those linked to the geographic location of a purchasing agent, IntuiLab will cancel the purchase and enforce the appropriate license cost. There are no exceptions.

In addition, IntuiLab may change the price for any license or data tracking option at any time and will communicate these price changes to all registered accounts by email at least 15 days before the price change. Price changes for active subscriptions will take effect at the start of the next subscription period following the date of the price change. If you do not agree with the price changes, you have the right to reject the change by cancelling your subscription prior to the price change going into effect. Please make sure you read any such notification of price changes carefully.

13. What is the refund policy?

Refund requests for licenses and subscription renewals will be accepted up to a maximum of fourteen (14) days post-purchase in the EU and seven (7) days post-purchase for the rest of the world if COMPOSER/PLAYER: RUN NO MORE THAN ONE TIME / DATA TRACKING: NO MORE THAN 1000 DATA POINTS PROCESSED. See this page for more information. Remember that you have access to a term-unlimited Free Edition of Composer, enabling you to try the entire feature set of IntuiFace at no cost.

Payment

Mastercard, Visa and American Express are accepted for all currencies.

15. What if I don't have a credit card?

License Management

16. How do I manage my licenses?

IntuiFace Composer and Player licenses can be managed online. Log into your customer account to access your license keys, release perpetual licenses for use elsewhere and cancel subscriptions. On this site you can also download the latest versions of our software.

17. Can I transfer licenses from one computer or device to another?

Each computer and multi-touch device requires its own IntuiFace Composer or Player license. Perpetual Composer licenses under active MSU entitlement can float - i.e. can be automatically accessed by a large group of people. When not under active MSU entitlement, perpetual Composer licenses still include an unlimited number of license transfers between devices, the transfer is just performed manually. Perpetual Player for Windows licenses are always transferred manually. Annual subscription licenses permit a limited number of license transfers. Monthly subscriptions do not permit transfer. See this article for more information.

18. Can I have more than one Composer license type on the same PC?

No. Only one type of Composer license – Free, Pro, Enterprise – can be activated on a given PC. However, multiple instances of Composer can be run on a single PC, enabling you to work on multiple experiences at the same time. All instances of Composer on a PC share the same license.

19. When is an Internet connection required while using Composer or Player?

See this page for the most up-to-date information. The frequency of Internet access required depends upon the license type and duration.

Opening Experiences Across Editions

21. What’s the most important thing to know about how IntuiFace Composer licensing works?

The experiences you create with Composer include information about which Composer edition was used to create them. This means there are three kinds of experiences – Free, Pro and Enterprise – matching each of the three editions of Composer. By keeping this idea in mind, the rules governing how to work with experiences across editions will make sense. To help you distinguish between editions, each experience filename is tagged with the Edition name: .free.ifx for Free, .pro.ifx for Pro, .ifx for Enterprise.

22. What are the limitations of Composer Free?

Composer Free inserts an IntuiFace watermark in the lower-right corner of a running experience. In addition, experiences created using Composer Free can only be opened, edited and saved on other PCs using Composer Free; Composer Pro and Enterprise on other PCs cannot open experiences created using Composer Free. Finally, Composer Free requires a live Internet connection in order to run.

23. How do I open an experience created using Composer Free in Player or on another PC in a Pro or Enterprise Edition of Composer?
  • Composer: You must first - on the PC used to create the Free Edition experience - upgrade Composer to Pro or Enterprise and then resave your experience. It is this resaved experience - now tagged as a Pro or Enterprise Edition experience - that can be run by Pro and Enterprise Editions of Composer on other PCs.
  • Player for Windows: There is a free version of Player for Windows when using the share-by-URL feature; it can run experiences created using Composer Free. Paid versions of Player for Windows cannot run experiences created using Composer Free.
  • Player for Tablets and Player for Kiosks: There is a free version of these Players and they can run experiences created using Composer Free. Paid versions of Player for Tablets and Player for Kiosks cannot run experiences created using Composer Free.
24. Can the Free Edition of Composer open, play and save experiences created using the Pro Edition of Composer?

Yes, but be aware that use of the Free Edition means the changes you make can only be saved to a Free Edition version of the experience. The result is an experience that can only be opened, edited and saved by other installations of Composer Free.

25. Can the Free Edition of Composer open, play and save experiences created using the Enterprise Edition of Composer?

Yes, but be aware that 1) use of the Free Edition means changes you make can only be saved to a Free Edition version of the experience, and 2) custom Interface Assets added using the Enterprise Edition must be manually removed before saving the experience.

26. Can the Pro Edition of Composer open, play and save experiences created using the Enterprise Edition of Composer?

Yes, but be aware that custom Interface Assets added using the Enterprise Edition must be manually removed before saving the experience.

27. Can you summarize all of this sharing-by-edition info for me?
28. Can I launch Composer directly into Play mode?

Yes, by sharing your experience with "Play only" access rights. For details, see this article.

Deploying Your Experiences

29. Can the Management Console deploy experiences to PCs with only Composer installed?

No. The Management Console can only deploy experiences to devices running either the subscription or perpetual version of Player.

The Management Console can deploy experiences published using Composer Pro or Composer Enterprise. Composer Free experiences cannot be deployed using Management Console.
